A Licensed Maui Flooring Contractor Based in Wailuku

Maui Prestige Flooring is a licensed Hawaii flooring contractor based in Wailuku. For more than 16 years we have installed and repaired floors for Maui homeowners, condo owners, rental managers and businesses, adding up to over 1,700 completed jobs.

Flooring is all we do. That focus lets us go deep on the details that decide whether a floor lasts on this island: slab moisture, subfloor flatness, humidity and the products that stand up to all three.

Below you will find what those years taught us, how to verify our license and insurance, and exactly what our 1-year labor warranty covers.

Our Story: 16 Years of Floors on Maui

We are flooring specialists. We do not sideline in cabinets, paint or window coverings, so every one of our 16+ years on Maui has gone into floors.

Across more than 1,700 jobs, the same lessons kept coming back:

  • A floor is only as good as what is under it. Most failures we repair trace back to a damp slab or an uneven subfloor, not to the product.
  • Maui humidity punishes shortcuts. Wood that skips acclimation cups, and laminate laid on an untested slab swells at the seams.
  • Old floors hide surprises. Vinyl tile and black mastic from before about 1980 can contain asbestos, so our floor removal and disposal work starts with testing.
  • Clear quotes prevent arguments. Leveling, removal and furniture moving are listed line by line, so the final bill matches what you approved.

Those lessons shape every job we take on, whether it is one bathroom in Wailuku or a full condo in Kihei.

Licensing and Insurance You Can Verify

Hawaii requires a contractor’s license for any project over $1,500 in labor and materials, or any job that needs a building permit. We hold a Hawaii contractor license, carry general liability insurance and cover our crews with workers’ compensation.

Hawaii Contractor License Classes for Flooring

The state licenses specialty contractors by trade. The classes that cover floor work are:

  • C-21 flooring contractor
  • C-7 carpet laying contractor
  • C-51 tile contractor
  • B general building contractor

Whoever you hire, check that the class on the license matches the floor being installed.

Look Up Our License on the DCCA Site

Anyone can check a Hawaii license on the DCCA public license search, run by Professional and Vocational Licensing.

  1. Ask the contractor for their license number. We include ours with every quote.
  2. Search by that number or the business name.
  3. Confirm the license is current and review the classes listed.

Liability Insurance and Workers' Compensation

Liability insurance covers damage to your property during the job. Workers’ compensation covers our crew if someone is hurt in your home, so the claim never lands on your homeowner’s policy.

We send a certificate of insurance on request, which most AOAO boards and property managers need before work can start.

Licensing protects you after the job, too, because Hawaii’s Contractors Recovery Fund only helps people who hired a licensed contractor. The DCCA guide to hiring a licensed contractor in Hawaii covers what else to check before you sign.

Our 1-Year Labor Warranty, Explained

Every installation we complete carries a 1-year labor warranty in writing. If a problem shows up because of how the floor was installed, we come back and correct it.

What the Labor Warranty Covers

Covered for one year from the install date:

  • Seams on click-lock floors that open, gap or peak
  • Planks, tile or carpet seams that lift or come loose
  • Hollow-sounding tile caused by poor mortar coverage
  • Trim, transitions and stair nosings that separate

Not covered: damage from floods, leaks, pets, sun, heavy impacts or skipped maintenance, and defects in the material itself.

How Manufacturer Warranties Work Alongside Ours

The product warranty comes from the manufacturer, not from us. It covers defects in the material, such as wear-through, delamination, premature fading or a faulty locking system, and its length varies by brand and product line.

If you rent your home or condo to guests, read the commercial terms closely: many brands classify short-term rentals as commercial use. We confirm the rating before ordering so a residential-only product never ends up in a rental.

Factor Our labor warranty Manufacturer product warranty
Who stands behind it Maui Prestige Flooring The brand, such as Shaw, Mohawk or COREtec
What it covers Installation workmanship Defects and wear in the material
How long it lasts 1 year from the install date Varies by brand, product line and use
Vacation rentals Same terms as any home Often treated as commercial use
What keeps it valid Normal use and care of the floor Installing to the brand’s moisture, flatness and acclimation specs
Who to call first Us Us, and we help document the issue for the brand

The two warranties depend on each other. Most manufacturers deny claims when a floor went down over a slab that was too wet or too uneven, which is why we record moisture readings and flatness checks on every job sheet.

The Crew Behind Your Floor

Our installers work only on floors, and it shows in the small things: undercut door jambs, tight miters on stair nosings and transitions that sit flush. Every person on your job is covered by our liability insurance and workers’ compensation.

On install days, you can expect us to:

  • Arrive at the agreed time and walk the job with you before starting
  • Protect cabinets, door frames and finished rooms from dust and scuffs
  • Keep the work area clear and haul debris away as we go
  • Walk the finished floor with you and leave spare material for future repairs

Questions mid-job go straight to the team doing the work. Our phones are answered until 9pm every day, so you are never waiting until Monday for an answer.
