Floor and Subfloor Repair on Maui
Maui Prestige Flooring repairs damaged floors and the subfloors beneath them across Maui, for homeowners, landlords, vacation rental managers and insurance adjusters. Over 16 years and 1,700+ flooring jobs have taught us that most problem floors need a targeted fix, not a whole new room.
A cracked tile, a peaking seam, a soft spot by the toilet or a cupped board is usually a symptom of something underneath. We track down that cause, correct it, and then repair the surface so it blends with the floor you already have.
We work on hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, laminate, tile, carpet and the slabs and plywood under them. Every repair is quoted in writing and backed by our 1-year labor warranty.

Floor and Subfloor Repair Services on Maui
Floor repair means fixing a defined area of damaged flooring, and whatever caused it, instead of replacing the whole floor. For most Maui homes that is the faster, cheaper and less disruptive option, especially when the rest of the floor still looks good.
We work for homeowners getting ready to sell, landlords and property managers turning over a rental between guests, condo owners dealing with a leak from the unit above, and adjusters who need a clear scope. Commercial spaces are covered too, from shop entries to office corridors.
Every floor repair job includes:
- Diagnosis: moisture readings, a tap test on tile, and a straightedge check for dips and humps
- Cause fix: drying a wet area, securing a loose subfloor or freeing a pinned floating floor
- Repair: replacing boards, planks or tiles, re-stretching carpet or leveling the base
- Blending: matching color, finish, grout and transitions so the repair disappears

What We Repair
We repair every common floor type on the island, along with the structure underneath. Each repair service has its own page with the problems, methods and costs specific to that material.
Hardwood Floors
Board replacement with woven-in joints, cupping and crowning, squeaks, wide gaps, pet stains and termite-damaged boards, finished to blend with the rest of the room.
Vinyl Plank and Laminate
Single plank swaps mid-floor, separating seams, peaking at doorways, buckling and swollen laminate edges, with the cause behind the movement corrected.
Tile and Grout
Cracked tile replacement, hollow and debonded tile, tented ridges, regrouting and grout sealing for ceramic, porcelain and stone floors.
Carpet
Power re-stretching for ripples and wrinkles, seam repair, patching burns or pet damage, and replacing rusted tack strip near the coast.
Subfloors and Uneven Floors
Soft or rotted plywood, bouncy joists in raised homes, slab dips and humps, grinding and self-leveling compound before new flooring goes down.
Water and Flood Damage
Floors soaked by appliance leaks, burst lines and the March 2026 Kona low storms, from drying checks and moisture mapping to replacement and documentation.
Repair or Replace? How We Decide
We recommend a repair when the damage is contained, the cause can be fixed, and matching material is available. Replacement wins when damage is widespread, the floor is worn out anyway, or the problem is built into the original install.
| Factor | Repair usually makes sense | Replacement usually makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Extent of damage | A handful of boards, planks or tiles in one area | Damage spread across most of the room |
| Spare stock | You have leftover boxes from the same run | No spares and no close match found |
| Product status | Still made, or a donor area can supply pieces | Discontinued with no salvage source |
| Underlying cause | A single leak, a pinned edge, one dip in the slab | Slab moisture or install errors across the whole floor |
| Condition of the rest | Floor is in good shape with years left | Worn, faded or failing everywhere |
| Cost comparison | Repair is a fraction of a new floor | Repair cost approaches half of replacement |
A middle path is common too. We repair the damaged area and break the room at a doorway with a transition, so a slightly different new floor in one space never sits right next to the old one.

Matching Flooring That's No Longer Made
Matching a discontinued floor is the hardest part of most repairs, and it is usually solvable. We work through these sources in order, from best match to last resort:
- Your spare boxes. Same dye lot or production run, so they match exactly.
- Borrowed pieces. We pull boards, planks or tiles from inside a closet, under the refrigerator or beneath a built-in, use them for the visible repair, and fill the hidden spot with the closest new match.
- Salvage and stock searches. Distributors, other installers and salvage sources sometimes hold leftover cartons of older lines.
- Blending. On hardwood, sanding and refinishing the whole room brings new and old boards to one color.
When none of these work, a deliberate change at a natural break such as a hallway or doorway looks intentional. A slightly off match in the middle of a room never does.

Why Floors Fail on Maui
Most floor damage we see on Maui traces back to moisture, heat, grit or insects. Knowing the cause decides whether a repair will last.
Slab moisture
Many older slabs were poured without a vapor retarder, so ground moisture wicks up and cups wood, lifts tile and breaks down adhesives. A moisture vapor barrier for flooring stops it under the new repair.
Termites
Drywood and Formosan subterranean termites both eat wood floors and subfloors. Activity must be treated before any boards are replaced.
Appliance and plumbing leaks
Slow drips from dishwashers, ice-maker lines, toilets and AC condensate lines do more floor damage than storms because they go unnoticed for weeks.
Sand and red dirt
Beach sand and Central Maui red dirt act like sandpaper, wearing through finishes and wear layers at doorways first.
Sun-heated floating floors
Strong sun through lanai sliders heats vinyl and laminate, which expands, peaks at seams and buckles when the floor has no room to move.
Settling and soft spots
Raised Upcountry and North Shore homes can develop bouncy joists or rotted plywood, and coastal slabs crack and settle over time.
How a Floor Repair Visit Works
A repair starts with finding the cause, not with the replacement piece. Most single-area repairs are finished in 1 to 2 days once material is on hand.

FAQ
Floor Repair FAQ
Can you fix a few damaged planks without redoing the room?
In most cases, yes. Click-lock vinyl and laminate planks can be unclicked from the nearest wall or cut out and glued in mid-floor, hardwood boards can be woven in, and single tiles can be cut out and reset without touching their neighbors.
The repair only holds if the cause is fixed too, so we check for moisture, a dip in the subfloor or a pinned edge first. When the damage is spread across most of the room, or the floor is near the end of its life, we will tell you honestly that replacement is the better spend.
Why should I keep spare flooring after installation?
Spare boxes come from the same production run as your floor, so the color, sheen and edge profile match exactly. Flooring lines are updated or discontinued every few years, and a later batch of the same color can look noticeably different.
Keep at least one full box of planks or tiles, plus a small bag of grout if you have tile, in a dry closet rather than a hot garage or carport. Write the product name and lot number on the box.
Do you repair floors you didn't install?
Yes. We repair floors put in by builders, previous owners and other contractors. It helps if you can find the brand and product name on old paperwork or a leftover box, but we can identify most materials on site.
If the original install caused the problem, such as missing expansion gaps or poor tile coverage, we explain what we found and include the correction in the quote.
