Furniture Moving for Flooring Projects on Maui

Maui Prestige Flooring moves furniture and appliances out of the way before your new floor goes in, then puts everything back once the floor is ready for weight. We do it for homeowners, condo owners and property managers across Maui as part of the flooring job, so there is no separate mover to coordinate.

Over 16+ years and more than 1,700 jobs, we have shuffled everything from king beds and sectional sofas to office shelving. We also know what we should not touch, such as pianos and gun safes, and plan around them early.

Your quote spells out what we move, what you pack and how the rooms will be phased. That way install day starts with flooring, not with emptying bookshelves.

Furniture Moving and Room Prep for Your Flooring Installation

Furniture moving for a flooring job means clearing each room before work starts and resetting it once the floor can take weight. Everything stays at your home: we move it between rooms, into the garage or onto a covered lanai.

What a quote normally lists:

  • Moving sofas, tables, beds, dressers, desks and entertainment units
  • Taking apart and reassembling standard bed frames and simple tables
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting appliances that sit on the new floor
  • Wrapping furniture in moving blankets and plastic
  • A room-by-room plan that keeps a bedroom and the kitchen usable where possible
  • Resetting furniture on felt pads once the floor is ready

Homeowners use it to skip a weekend of heavy lifting, condo owners because the building controls how things move, and property managers because a rental has to be guest-ready on a fixed date.

Clearing a typical two or three bedroom home takes a few hours at the start of the job, and resetting it takes about the same at the end. Phasing room by room spreads that time across the install instead of front-loading it.

What We Move and What You Pack

We move the furniture, and you pack the small, fragile and personal items. This split keeps the job safe and the schedule on time.

Item Who handles it Notes
Sofas, chairs and tables We move Glass tops removed and stored flat
Beds and dressers We move Dressers emptied first, standard frames taken apart
Bookshelves and china cabinets We move once emptied Contents packed by you
Refrigerator, electric range, washer, dryer We move and reconnect standard hookups Gas appliances need a licensed gas professional
TVs, computers and audio gear You Unplug and pack; wall-mounted TVs stay up
Closet contents You Clear the closet floor if it is getting new flooring
Fragile, valuable and personal items You Art, heirlooms, jewelry, documents and medications
Pianos, safes, aquariums, pool tables Specialist movers Arranged by you before install day

Walk through the house the week before and box up anything you would not want a stranger handling. Clearing shoes, toys and loose rugs off the floor speeds up the first morning.

Appliances, Pianos and Heavy Pieces

We move standard household appliances and heavy furniture with appliance dollies and furniture sliders. Pianos, safes and large aquariums need specialist movers with the right equipment and insurance.

Refrigerators

We close the water valve, disconnect the ice maker line and roll the fridge out on an appliance dolly. On reconnect we check the fitting for leaks, since a slow drip under a new floor is a costly surprise.

Washers, dryers and ranges

Washer hoses are disconnected and capped, and electric dryers and ranges are unplugged and rolled out. Gas dryers and ranges must be disconnected and reconnected by a licensed gas professional, so book that visit before install day.

Pianos, safes and aquariums

These are too heavy, delicate or valuable to move without specialist gear. If one sits in a room getting new flooring, have it moved out first, or ask us how to phase the room around it.

Brittle plastic ice maker lines are worth swapping for braided stainless while the fridge is out. Dishwashers are checked too: running the new floor under one keeps it level, but the added height has to clear the countertop opening.

Dreading the heavy lifting?

We clear the rooms, install your floor and put everything back where it belongs.

Condo Moves: Elevators, Loading Zones and Quiet Hours

Condo flooring jobs run on the building’s schedule. Most Maui AOAOs set rules for elevator use, loading zones, work hours and noise, and we plan the furniture move and install around them.

  • Reserve the service elevator and ask management for elevator pads or wall protection
  • Book a loading zone or parking pass for the work vehicle, especially at busy Kihei and Wailea complexes
  • Keep noisy work inside posted quiet hours, which are often weekday daytime only
  • Send the management office a certificate of insurance when the building asks for one
  • Protect hallway and lobby floors along the carry path

Furniture usually stays inside the unit and moves room to room, because storing it in a hallway or on a shared lanai is rarely allowed. Building flooring rules such as board approval and sound-rated underlayment are covered on our condo flooring page.

Vacation Rental Turnovers

For short-term rentals we phase the work around guest stays, finishing one zone at a time so the unit is ready on the date in your booking calendar. Most 1 and 2 bedroom condos fit a 2 to 4 day window for vinyl plank.

  1. Before checkout

    Week before

We confirm dates with your property manager, check that the material is on Maui and agree which rooms go first.

  2. Clear and install

    Day 1 to 3

Furniture moves one zone at a time, the floor goes down and each room is reset before the next one is cleared.

  3. Reset for guests

    Final day

Furniture goes back in its listing-photo positions with felt pads on every leg, and the unit is vacuumed for your cleaner.

Send us your listing photos and we will use them as the reset guide. Order rental flooring before the dates are locked, since special-order material can take 4 to 6 weeks to reach Maui, and see our vacation rental flooring page for rental-grade products.

Putting Furniture Back on a New Floor

Furniture goes back as soon as the floor can take the weight, and that depends on the floor. Floating floors can take furniture right away, while finishes, adhesives and grout need time.

Every leg gets a felt pad or glide, and heavy pieces are lifted and set down, never dragged. Rolling office chairs need a chair mat on any hard floor.

Rubber-backed rugs can discolor vinyl and trap moisture against wood. Use rug pads labeled safe for vinyl and hardwood floors.

Felt pads under dining chair legs on Napili hardwood floor
Floor Light furniture Heavy furniture and rugs
Click-lock vinyl plank and laminate Right away Right away
Glue-down vinyl About 24 hours 24 to 48 hours
Tile After the grout sets, usually 24 hours 48 to 72 hours
Hardwood refinished with a water-based finish About 48 hours Rugs after 1 to 2 weeks
Epoxy coatings About 72 hours Full cure in about 7 days

We confirm the exact wait for the product used on your job. Finish cure times are covered in more depth on our hardwood floor sanding and refinishing page and our epoxy flooring and concrete coatings page.

FAQ

Furniture Moving FAQ

Is furniture moving included in my flooring quote?

Furniture moving is listed as its own line on your written quote, so you can see exactly what it covers. That line names the rooms, the appliances to disconnect and anything we will not move, such as a piano. If you would rather clear the rooms yourself, tell us at the measure and we will leave it off.

Do I need to empty my closets?

Yes, if new flooring is going into them. Clear everything off the closet floor, including shoe racks and storage bins, and take down anything hanging low enough to block the work. Clothes on a high rod can usually stay.

Where does furniture go during installation?

Usually into another room, so the work moves through the house in phases. On whole-house jobs we use the garage, a covered lanai or a room that is already finished.

If there is no space at all, a portable storage container or short-term storage unit is the backup, and we plan that with you before install day.
