Flooring Installation on Maui for Homes and Businesses
Maui Prestige Flooring is a Wailuku-based flooring specialist that installs every common floor type for homeowners, condo owners, landlords and businesses across Maui. In more than 16 years and over 1,700 jobs, we have laid everything from a single porcelain-tiled bathroom to whole homes in engineered oak.
The difference between a floor that lasts and one that fails in two years is the work underneath it. Island humidity, slabs poured without vapor retarders and red dirt grit punish shortcuts, so every job starts with moisture readings and a flat, sound subfloor.
We are licensed and insured, carry workers' compensation coverage and stand behind our workmanship with a 1-year labor warranty. You get a written quote and a realistic schedule that accounts for ocean freight to the island.

Every Floor Type We Install on Maui
We install more than 25 kinds of flooring, plus the stairs, trim and underlayments that finish a room properly. Find the group that fits your project below, then open the dedicated page for methods, products and pricing.
Hardwood, Engineered and Patterned Wood
Real wood works in raised plantation-era homes and modern slab builds alike, provided the product matches the subfloor. Choose solid hardwood flooring installation over plywood, or engineered hardwood installation for slabs and condos.
For a statement room, we lay herringbone floors, parquet flooring and custom pattern wood floors with borders and medallions.
Bamboo and Cork
Strand-woven bamboo is harder than most oak and suits busy family homes on a budget. Cork is soft, warm and naturally quiet, which makes our cork flooring installation popular for bedrooms, offices and upstairs units.
Vinyl Plank, Laminate and Sheet Vinyl
Waterproof rigid core vinyl is the most requested floor for Maui slabs and rentals. We also install laminate flooring for dry rooms and sheet vinyl and VCT for kitchens, clinics and commercial back-of-house areas.
Tile, Stone and Terrazzo
Tile never minds humidity, sand or wet feet. We set ceramic tile, large format porcelain tile and natural stone flooring such as travertine and slate, and pour terrazzo flooring for lobbies and high-end homes.
Concrete, Polished Concrete and Epoxy
Sometimes the slab itself is the best finished floor. We grind and densify polished concrete floors and apply epoxy flooring and concrete coatings for garages, lanais, shops and warehouses.
Carpet, Carpet Tile and Area Rugs
Carpet still makes sense in bedrooms and upstairs condos where softness and sound control matter. Carpet tile installation suits offices and rentals, and our carpet binding and area rug service turns leftover broadloom into finished rugs.
Rubber, Gym and Sports Floors
Rolled and tiled rubber protects slabs in home gyms, garages and fitness studios. For courts, studios and training centers, see our gym and sports flooring installation options.
Stairs, Trim, Underlayment and Radiant Heat
The details decide how finished a floor looks and feels. We fit baseboards, trim and transitions, acoustic underlayment for condos, moisture vapor barriers for damp slabs and radiant heated floors for cool Upcountry mornings.
Choosing a Floor That Suits a Maui Home
For most Maui homes on concrete slabs, the best flooring is rigid core vinyl plank, porcelain tile or engineered hardwood, because all three tolerate humidity and ground moisture. Raised wood-framed homes widen the choice to solid hardwood and nail-down bamboo.
| Floor | Humid climate | On a slab | Water | Termite risk | Underfoot | Installed cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl plank (SPC) | Excellent | Excellent | Waterproof | None | Firm, quiet with pad | $ to $$ |
| Laminate | Good if joints are sealed | Good, floated | Resists spills only | Fiberboard core can be eaten | Warm, a little hollow | $ |
| Engineered hardwood | Good | Good, glued or floated | Low | Wood, inspect first | Warm, solid | $$ to $$$ |
| Solid hardwood | Fair, needs acclimation | Not recommended | Low | Wood, inspect first | Warm, solid | $$$ |
| Strand bamboo | Good | Good | Low to moderate | Cellulose, can be eaten | Very hard | $$ |
| Cork | Good | Good over a barrier | Moderate | Low | Soft, quiet | $$ |
| Porcelain or ceramic tile | Excellent | Excellent | Waterproof | None | Hard, cool | $$ to $$$ |
| Natural stone | Excellent | Excellent | High when sealed | None | Hard, cool | $$$$ |
| Polished concrete or epoxy | Excellent | It is the slab | High | None | Hard, cool | $ to $$ |
| Carpet | Fair | Good with slab-rated pad | Low | None (synthetic fiber) | Softest | $ |
The best flooring for a humid climate is one with little or no wood fiber in its core. Windward homes in Haiku and Huelo see more moisture than leeward condos in Kihei, so we weigh your location as well as the room.
If termite resistant flooring is your priority, choose tile, stone, concrete, epoxy or vinyl, since none of them contain cellulose. Wood is still a fine choice with the right checks, and our hardwood flooring guide for Maui homes explains how we inspect for Formosan and drywood termites before any boards go down.
What Every Installation Includes
Every quote covers the prep work that protects your product warranty, not just the hours spent laying the finish floor. Manufacturers deny claims when a floor fails over a wet or uneven subfloor, so we treat these steps as part of the job, not optional extras.
Furniture can be handled too. Our furniture moving service for flooring jobs clears and resets rooms so you are not hauling sofas the night before install day.

Removing and Hauling Away the Old Floor
Floor removal comes first: we pull carpet and tack strip, scrape vinyl and adhesive, and break out tile and mortar beds. Our floor removal and disposal service also covers asbestos testing for pre-1980 vinyl tile and black mastic before anything is disturbed.
Slab Moisture Testing and Vapor Barriers
We take moisture readings on every slab and wood subfloor and record them on your job sheet. When the numbers are high, we install a moisture vapor barrier for concrete floors rated for your flooring.
Leveling and Subfloor Prep
High spots are ground down and low spots filled until the floor meets the manufacturer’s flatness spec. Bigger problems, from cracked slabs to soft plywood over joists, go through our subfloor repair and floor leveling service.
Trim, Transitions and Cleanup
Baseboard installation, quarter round, stair nosing and transition strips finish the edges cleanly. We use stainless or aluminum trims near the coast where salt air corrodes plain steel, then vacuum, wipe down and haul away every offcut.
Planning more than one room?
We measure the whole house in one visit and quote each area separately, so you can phase the work.
Our Installation Timeline, Step by Step
Most Maui flooring installations take 1 to 2 weeks from measure to final walkthrough when the material is in stock locally. Special-order products shipped from the mainland stretch that to roughly 5 to 8 weeks.
| Stage | Typical time | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Measure and site check | One visit, about 1 hour | Room measurements, moisture readings, door and appliance heights |
| Written quote | 1 to 3 business days | Material, prep, removal, trim and tax itemized |
| Ordering and freight | Days if stocked, 4 to 6 weeks if shipped | Order placed, delivery booked to your site |
| Delivery and acclimation | 1 to 7 days | Wood, bamboo, cork and laminate adjust to the room |
| Removal and prep | Half a day to 3 days | Old floor out, slab tested, ground and leveled |
| Installation | 1 to 7 days | Depends on the floor and the size of the area |
| Trim, cure and walkthrough | Same day to 3 days | Transitions, baseboards, cleanup and a final check with you |
How long the install day itself takes depends on the floor. For about 1,000 sq ft, plan on:
- 1 to 2 days for carpet
- 2 to 4 days for click-lock vinyl plank or laminate
- 3 to 5 days for glue-down engineered hardwood
- 5 to 8 days for tile, including grout and cure time
- 6 to 9 days for site-finished solid hardwood
Freight is the wild card. Mainland orders cross the Pacific by Matson or Pasha container ship to Kahului Harbor, and jobs on Lanai and Molokai add a Young Brothers barge leg, so we order as soon as you approve the quote.

What Flooring Installation Costs on Maui
Most flooring installation on Maui costs between $5 and $30 per square foot, material and labor included, with carpet and vinyl at the low end and tile and hardwood at the high end. Your written quote is the exact number for your rooms.
| Floor | Typical installed cost per sq ft |
|---|---|
| Carpet with pad | $5 to $10 |
| Laminate | $6 to $11 |
| Luxury vinyl plank or tile | $7 to $13 |
| Engineered hardwood | $11 to $20 |
| Solid hardwood | $13 to $24 |
| Ceramic tile | $14 to $25 |
| Porcelain tile | $16 to $30 |
| Epoxy coating (residential) | $6 to $12 |
So how much does it cost to install flooring in a typical 1,000 sq ft home? Vinyl plank usually lands between $7,000 and $13,000 before any extra slab work. Removal adds about $1.50 to $4 per sq ft, and self-leveling or slab prep adds $2 to $6 per sq ft where needed.
FAQ
Installation Questions
Do you install flooring I bought somewhere else?
Ask us when you request your quote, and tell us the brand, product line and quantity. Before we agree to install customer-supplied material, we check that it suits your subfloor and room, that there is enough for cuts and waste (usually 5 to 10 percent extra), and that every carton is from the same production run.
Our 1-year labor warranty covers our workmanship either way, while defects in the product itself stay with the seller and manufacturer. Our About page explains how labor and manufacturer warranties differ.
Do I need to move out while floors are installed?
For most floors, no. Click-lock vinyl, laminate, carpet and glue-down engineered wood can be walked on the same day or the next, and we can work room by room around you.
Site-finished hardwood and epoxy coatings are different. Plan to stay elsewhere for 2 to 4 days while the finish coats cure and the fumes clear, and keep pets out longer.
Can you install new floors in occupied homes and rentals?
Yes. We phase the work room by room, moving furniture into finished areas as we go, and keep a clear path to the kitchen and a bathroom. Dust barriers go up at doorways, and debris leaves the site each day.
For vacation rentals, we plan around booking gaps and can often finish a one or two bedroom condo between guests. Our vacation rental flooring service covers turnover scheduling in more detail.
